These pictures show Nicholas' car for the 2000 racing season. What a change from last year!

The engine is the one pictured and described below. The clutch is now a Jr Racecars modified version of the Salisbury 340 with billet faceplate. The carb is a Mike Clements blueprinted Tilly 355 Atomizer. The exhaust is a ARC chrome exhaust. We have changed the axle from a tubular one to a solid one. The tubular one that was on there last year was bent. For the gearing, we changed the front sprocket from an 11 to a 13. We added a Jaz 1 Qt. fuel cell and a Jaz catch tank. The clutch guard was modeled after a clutch guard made for Polar Motorplates. We have changed the cover to be 4 inches as opposed to the 3 inches that the Polar version has. The car has also been upgraded to Steel braided brake lines from Russell Performance.

These pictures show Chrystal's car for the 2000 racing season. Another remarkable change from last year!

The engine is the same engine she had last year except that it has been worked on by Ron Pope Motorsports. Ron bored it to 15 thousandths over and put a Wiseco piston in. Also put in a Clements 4.475 rod, a Dyno Cams 94SS cam, billet lifters, better springs and valves. There is also a Clements 2.5 pound billet flywheel and a Rocket Dan's Time Machine. The clutch is now the Salisbury 330 from Nicholas' car last year. The motorplate is a Marco Technologies. The carb is a stock carb that I rejetted for alky. The exhaust is the one from Nicholas' car last year. We have changed the axle from a tubular one to a solid one. We added a Jaz catch tank. We also added a Digatron DT32-K3 to her car. The clutch guard and chain guard were fabricated entirely by me. The car has also been upgraded to Steel braided brake lines from Russell Performance.

This is what our team will look like going down the street to start the year off. Partially captured in this picture is the mini bike we built to use as a get around the track and tow vehicle.

This is a better view of the mini bike we built from a kit purchased from Eggers Kart Shop. The kit is the AZUSA engineering #3541 kit. The engine is the engine that was on Nicholas' car last year and the clutch is the clutch that was on Chrystal's car last year. Such a deal.
This is the new motor we put together for Nicholas' car. It is a .100 over bore with a Wiseco piston (teflon coated), Hortsman 4.500 rod (teflon coated), Dyno Cams 375 which is a .382 lift cam, 1.250 intake and 1.125 exhaust ports, Dual valve springs, Ported and polished, Weld reinforced intake, 3 inch Down draft Jr Racecars intake manifold, Tilly 355 Atomizer by Clements, Jr Racecars 2.8 pound billet flywheel, Clements head, Jr Racecars girdle, Pro Fire coil, and Clements billet side cover. The Driver is a Salsbury 340 from Jr Racecars and has the billet face plate. We will be using a Walbro fuel pump, NGK B-4 spark plugs, and FHS 62R racing oil with this engine. This engine was built for us by "Motors by Vern" with some of the machine work performed by Ron Pope Motorsports.

On Sat Nov 6, our racing season got extended by one weekend and we got to race one more time giving Nicholas that one additional attempt to get a trophy this year. This picture shows Nicholas in the staging lane ready for his run in the Finals.

After his final run, Nicholas returned to the pit to receive his trophy. Notice how beautiful the weather was on this day.

On Thursday Oct 21, we went to the first day of qualifying for the 1999 O'Reilly Fall Nationals held at Texas Motorplex. This pictures shows Nicholas and Chrystal standing by John Force's Funny car sitting in his pit area. John Force went on to win the National 1999 Funny Car Championship, his 9th. Maybe some of Chrystal's good luck rubbed off on him. ;)

Nicholas and Chrystal are watching Federal Mogul dragsters and funny cars making their first qualifying runs.

Chrystal has already stated her intention to go fast. She asked upon seeing the full size dragsters, "Daddy, when I turn 18, will I get one of those?".

While the dragsters were running that night, Chrystal snuggled up to me and asked, "Daddy, when I get my Top Fuel Dragster, will it have fire coming out of the exhaust like those cars?".
On Sept 19th, Texas Raceway held the 7th Annual Division 4 Fall ET Finals. This picture shows the staging lanes and a few of the 190 cars that were entered in this event

Here are the Schnick Motorsports drivers with their cars. (The cars are actually the same size although Chrystal's car may appear larger.)

Here Chrystal's car is in the staging lanes ready to run after her exciting 2nd time trial run. On her 2nd time trial, one of her brake calipers blew a seal leaving her without brakes at the end of the track. She ended up running off the return lane and into the grass to slow down. She then drove the car back to the pits where she used the ramp on the trailer to stop her (and this was only her second day driving). We were determined to get her back in the car and down the track. With the help of many, we were able to locate the necessary parts, disassemble the brakes and reassemble with the new parts.

Here, Chrystal is pulling in to the lane for her first elimination run after the brakes incident.

And, here she is staged. Chrystal won this first round elimination. There is a video of this run on the videos page. After this run, her win was all she could talk about. The brake incident was completely behind her.

Besides drag racing, there was bowling, a fire truck to climb all over, a door prize drawing, a NASCAR race car, and an obstacle course for the kids to play in, on, and around. This is a picture of Nicholas picking up a spare.

This picture shows Chrystal standing by the obstacle course.

Here is Chrystal standing by her car ready to go to the staging lanes on her first day of racing.

Once to the back of the staging lanes, a couple of Chrystal's friends came over to wish her well. On the left in is Kirby and on the right is Tara. Kirby and Tara are sisters and are also from Plano.

A little further along in the staging lanes, Chrystal has her helmet on and is all ready to go.

This picture shows Chrystal pulling on to the track for her first time ever. There is a video of this run on the videos page.

Thank goodness for friends and family. Did I ever have my hands full today running two cars in the same class. This pictures shows Nicholas and Chrystal in the staging lanes for their second time trial.

Here, Chrystal is getting staged for her second time trials run.

On July 4th, 1999, we raced at Texas Motorplex in the Division 4 Series race. This picture shows Nicholas taking the green light during time trials. He went on to win in first round eliminations only to have his throttle cable break on the start during the second round. Oh well, that's racing!

That night, we stayed for all the rest of the racing which included the running of three jet cars

The day before, July 3rd, we went racing at the Texas Raceway. Here we are staging the car for a race.
First Run
This picture shows Nicholas taking the green light on his first run in our car. Unfortunately, the mixture was too rich and the throttle had a mechanical problem that resulted in a bad ET. Richard House was very helpful in making mixture and throttle adjustments. We later cut about a quarter inch from the throttle cable because it was fully adjusted out and the throttle was not opening all the way. After the trimming, it was wide open racing.
Break and Trailer
Here we see Nicholas taking a break after his second run. Our trailer is also partially captured in this image. We had a 14' custom trailer built for the car. We decided to go with an open trailer since enclosed trailers cost so much and we really just needed to get running the car. Sloat Custom Trailers of Lancaster Texas built the trailer for us. They were extremely easy to work with and build a fine product.
Waiting To Run
Here, Nicholas is waiting in the staging lanes. All together, Nicholas got to make 6 runs during this first Test-N-Tune night. His best RT was an amazing .501. His best ET was 15.657. The fastest run was 36.80 MPH. Once we got the throttle and mixture adjusted, the car ran very consistently. 4 of the 6 runs were within .05 seconds of each other.
Full Length View
This picture shows the full length of the car. The car is 131" long at the wheelbase, 156" long tip to tip and 184" long from the tip of nose to back of spoiler. It is 39" wide at its widest point which is the outside side of the rear wheels. The car should weigh around 225 pounds without the driver and without the spoiler at the back. The spoiler is, for the most part, just for show. The front end has an offset front axle. This widens the profile for staging purposes.
Drivers View
This picture shows the drivers view. From here, you can see the low profile tinted Lexan windshield and Wilwood Butterfly steering wheel with quick release hub. The steering is rack & pinion. Seat belts at the bottom are part of the Simpson 5 point harness. The seat also has a Master Blaster seat cushion. The chassis is constructed entirely of 4130 Chromoly - tig welded in a jig to NHRA specifications and is powder coated. There is a kill switch on the right hand side. There is also a kill switch in the engine compartment.

The side view picture of the rear of the car shows the 10-inch aluminum polished rear wheels and the relative positioning of the driver inside the six point roll cage to the engine to the rear end. The rear tires are GoodYear Eagles - 19x 7.5-10 (R095) D2099 mounted on Douglas Wheels. The front wheels are 3.40/3.00 - 5.00.

This picture shows the motor and the rear end of the car. The motor is a stock Briggs and Stratton 5HP Model 135232 Type 1036 E1 built on June 25, 1998. As the kids advance, the motor can be tricked out with various modifications and can then run alcohol. Modified motors generate up to 30HP out of a 5HP B&S block. The car has a Salsbury Drive. The gears are 11 tooth and 85 tooth. The brakes are hydraulic using an Enginetics master cylinder.
Brief Car History:
The car was originally built in 1995 by Bressie Racing for the Brown family and is serial number 0012. The Browns raced it one season and then sold it to the Mitchell's. The Mitchell's had the car two seasons and were running the car in the low 9's before deciding to upgrade. The Mitchell's pulled their motor and sold the car to the Texas Motorplex in 1998 who with Revell Monogram and O'Reilly Autoparts, gave the car away in a promotion in the fall of '98. The winner of the drawing sold the car to us. In preparation for the promotion, a new motor was mounted in the car and the car was painted and decorated with decals as it now stands.

This picture shows Nicholas in his Driving suit. He has a Bell Helmet, Worth driving gloves, a Stroud Safety driving collar, and Auto Pro Driving jacket and arm restraints.
